Young swimmers make waves at National Junior Para Swimming
More than 100 young swimmers from across the UK came together at Coventry's Alan Higgs Centre for two memorable days of racing at the National Junior Para Swimming 2026.
Hosted by Activity Alliance in partnership with Swim England, the annual event welcomed swimmers across the UK for a packed programme of racing. From first-time competitors to experienced national swimmers, the event gave every athlete the opportunity to compete, develop and enjoy the excitement of a national meet.
The atmosphere throughout the weekend reflected the spirit of the event, with families, coaches and supporters cheering on swimmers in every race.
Seventeen-year-old Eloyn Mears, from Wycombe District Swimming Club, returned to the championships after recovering from injury and was delighted with her performance.
"I've been injured, so I was here for classification and the 100m freestyle. I went a lot better than I expected, so I'm really happy with it," she said.
Having competed at the championships several times, Eloyn believes the event plays an important role in helping young swimmers progress.
"It's a really nice event for younger swimmers to come to and get a taste of what nationals are like. I've seen myself develop over the years, from trying to achieve regional qualifying times to aiming for national and even international standards. It's a really good meet to get those times."
The championships also welcomed Deputy Lord Mayor of Coventry Julia Lepoidevin, ParalympicsGB Chair Dan Brooke and Rachel Taylor MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, who joined families and supporters to celebrate the achievements of the young swimmers.
Rachel Taylor MP said:
"It's fantastic to be here in Coventry at the National Junior Para Swimming Championships and to see so many young people competing. This is the next generation of our Paralympians, so it's hugely exciting to see."
She added:
"Activity Alliance's 'motto' is 'We all belong' and that's absolutely what I believe. We all belong in sport, we all belong in our clubs, and it's fantastic to see parents and families supporting their young athletes today."
Thank you to every swimmer, coach, official, volunteer and supporter who helped make the 2026 National Junior Para Swimming Championships another fantastic celebration of inclusive sport.
