Follow all the Typhoo #SportsForAll athletics news and stories as they happen

In February 2015, we announced that Typhoo and the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) had teamed up to ensure more disabled athletes have access to participation opportunities across England. Now, you can follow all the news and stories on the dedicated Typhoo programme website.

The Typhoo Sports for All site shares the events' and disabled athletes' stories from across England. Meet the personalities of those who are taking part and those who once found fame through the events programme, like World Champion Hollie Arnold. You can flick through the ongoing news and photographs on typhoosportsforall.com.

Stories like 15 year old Jamie Edwards, who has only been competing in wheelchair athletics for eighteen months. Within a year of his debut in the T33 races, he was ranked the fastest under 15 of all time in 100m and 200m on the Power of 10 (GB Athletics time leader boards) in his classification.

This year Jamie completed the 5km London Mini Marathon in 17.16 minutes, beating his previous PB by six minutes. He said:

"About two years ago I went to the Somerset Schools Games where I met athletics coach Jen Slade and she asked me to try wheelchair racing and even though I had never tried it before and had had no training I managed to come second. I’ve never looked back since."

With the extra ‘OO’ through Typhoo’s name, the programme bids to increase the number of disabled people in athletics.

It has been an action-packed few months with qualifiers throughout England taking place. Nine regional qualifiers have taken place, with the last one in London on 8 June. The athletes taking part have all aimed to qualify for the renowned National Junior Athletics Championships on 27-28 June in Warwick.

It is the third time Typhoo has backed the charity’s work after sponsoring the Typhoo Sports for All project in 2009 and 2010. Then, the partnership funded free Disability Inclusion Training across the country. This year, the tea company is brewing up with EFDS’s Disability Sport Events programme to ensure more disabled athletes have access to local competition.

Somnath Saha CEO of Typhoo Ltd, said:

“Typhoo are delighted to renew our partnership with EFDS to help disabled people access sport as part of our ongoing Sports for All programme.”

More than 1000 disabled athletes will be part of the regional qualifiers that lead to the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships climax on 27-28 June. Over 250 12-20 year olds will take part at Warwick Athletics Stadium and history proves that there will be future stars among the competitors.

There is a full track and field programme on offer, meaning athletes with a wide range of impairments can take part- something which is not often supported at many other events.

For over 25 years, the National Junior Athletics Championships has provided thousands of young disabled athletes with the opportunity to develop their talent and compete against others from across the country.

Many elite disabled athletes began their golden careers at the national event. Paralympians Hannah Cockroft, Shelly Woods, Aled Davies and Hollie Arnold were once junior participants who moved up the ranks to become world-class athletes.

Regional events are delivered by teams of dedicated volunteers, who drive the athletes’ ambition to qualify for the Nationals. This makes them highly competitive for the team trophy at the national event.

You can join in the conversation as we build up to the National Championships on 27-28 June. Use the programme hashtag #SportsForAll on Twitter or Facebook. Send in your action photos or simply wish the athletes good luck.
