Inspire Peterborough seeks disabled people in their area for survey

Inspire Peterborough is running a survey to capture the opinions of disabled people living in their area. The charity hopes to gain insight into the lives of disabled people and how sport fits in to them.

Inspire Peterborough is a new charitable organisation (working in partnership with local charity DIAL Peterborough) to improve the choice, access and availability of disability sport and leisure opportunities in Peterborough.

The ultimate vision is to improve the mental and physical health of everyone involved. Whilst they do not run any sports activities directly, they are looking to develop effective partnerships between disabled people, disability charities and sporting organisations. Inspire Peterborough will become the first point of contact for anyone interested in disability sport in Peterborough.

Inspire Peterborough Disability Sport Activity Survey. Be in with a chance to win £300 worth of Queensgate shopping vouchers!

They are now running a Sporting Activity Survey which is part of a study being conducted by Inspire Peterborough about sporting activities for disabled people in Peterborough.

It has been designed to capture a broad range of people in Peterborough, including:

  • anyone with any type of impairment
  • no upper or lower age limit
  • regardless of circumstances or current sporting involvement

The survey can also be completed with assistance from a friend, carer, agency or organisation as long as the answers are representative of the disabled person.

Everyone's participation in the survey is highly valued whether they are a regular participant or a non-participant in sporting activities. They are just as interested in the reasons and barriers why people do not participate in sporting activities as those that do.

The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous and confidential. However, there is a chance of winning a £300 Queensgate shopping voucher for participants if they include their name and email address.

Through the survey results we really want to make a difference to:

  • what's on offer in Peterborough for disabled people
  • how accessible it is
  • remove as many barriers to participation as possible
  • truly understanding what people want

To do all that, they need your help! Inspire Peterborough hope as many disabled people in the area can fill out the survey.

The survey closes on 4 November 2013.

A paper copy of the survey is also available. You can deliver it in these ways:

  • in person to the reception at Bayard Place
  • in person to the reception at the Town Hall
  • sent by email to julie@inspirepeterborough.com
  • by post to Ian Phillips, c/o Community Cohesion, 4th Floor, Bayard Place, Broadway, Peterborough PE1 1NZ

The vital evidence gained will highlight the opportunities needed in sporting activity in Peterborough. This will then help Inspire Peterborough to look for appropriate funding and develop effective partnerships between disabled people, disability charities and sporting organisations.
