Medal success for GB team at INAS Table Tennis Championships

Storming to success and achieving a hard won bronze medal, the GB Team are today returning from Hong Kong celebrating their victory after a challenging week of competition.

Success came in the form of a bronze for Adam Thompson, 25 (Cheshire) as he battled stiff competition in the class 11 singles keeping GB’s medal hopes alive by beating Hong Kong’s Ming Fai Tsoi in the quarter finals to guarantee a podium appearance.

Doubles success eluded the British pair despite their victory in an exciting Team game against number 3 seeds, Russia, where dynamic duo Thompson and Patrick Cox, 19 (Leicester), made their mark, but were then beaten to a commendable 4th place by the Hong Kong Team.

Tracey McCillen, Chief Executive UKSA said:

“Adam and Patrick are both determined athletes.  UKSA is proud of their achievements at the Championships and delighted that we end the year on such a high. My thanks too go to Shaun Newcomb and Chris Turner for their support and expertise in leading and supporting the GB entry – all the hard work has certainly paid off”.

GB Team Manager, Shaun Newcomb said:

“The boys came up against tough draws in the competition however they fought hard in every game. It was a good experience for them both and will put them in good stead for future competitions. The 2013 Championships have been superbly organised and it was a pleasure to be out in Hong Kong supporting two fantastic athletes.  It has been a great experience all round.  The GB Team is indebted to Cathay Pacific for their support which has made it possible for Great Britain to compete at this event.  Our thanks also go to the English Table Tennis Association and to the UK Sports Association for their support”.

Hong Kong welcomed 35 athletes from 8 countries namely Estonia, France, Russian, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine, Hong Kong and Great Britain between 11th – 19th December 2013
