Activity Alliance Annual Survey update for 2022

Activity Alliance’s Annual Disability and Activity Survey continues to track changes in disabled people’s perceptions and experiences of sport and physical activity. We’re pleased to share an update with you about Activity Alliance’s Annual Disability and Activity Survey for the year 2021-22.

Activity Alliance’s Annual Disability and Activity Survey was launched in 2019 to provide a greater understanding about disabled people’s attitudes towards and involvement in sport and physical activity. Our second survey launched in February 2021 played a crucial role to help uncover the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on disabled people’s motivations and ability to be active.

This important national survey continues to track changes in disabled people’s perceptions and experiences of sport and physical activity across years. As the leading voice for disabled people in sport and activity, we continue to apply our learning through discussions with our members and partner networks. Our upcoming Annual Survey will see more detail on:

  • the impact of shielding and long-COVID on physical activity,
  • differences between experiences of informal and organised activities,
  • perceptions of impairments,
  • and support needs as the pandemic continues to affect our lives.

Importantly, this project includes a qualitative component where disabled people will influence the research report and our recommendations. Listening to the diverse voices and lived experiences of disabled people will inform our decisions and help us to shape more effective services and projects. This project will help us and others on our journey for effective collaboration and co-production.

We will release our next Annual Disability and Activity Survey 2021-22 report week commencing 6 June 2022. We recognise this is a delay from previous annual survey release dates (January 2020 and February 2021). However, we expect and are planning for all future Annual Survey reports to return to being released earlier in the year.

We are working closely with IFF Research, Sport England, and our members to ensure that each year our Annual Survey provides the robust and detailed insight needed to achieve fairness for disabled people in sport and activity.

A save the date notice and more information on our Annual Survey communications plan will follow early next year.
