Bradford promote inclusive cycling at Sky Ride Local

Bradford’s Sky Ride Local programme got off to a flying start on 8 May in Lister Park. Working with Bradford Councils Youth Service the group invited young disabled people to come and join our first Sky Ride Local of the season.

Despite the wet weather over 100 young people attended the ride using a range of regular and adapted bikes from the Youth Services‘ brand new cycling hub in the park.

Young people, parents, ride leaders and  youth workers made the event a real success, along with a small army of volunteers who we weren’t going to let a bit of wet weather dampen their enthusiasm.

Dan Goodey from British Cycling said:

"Only through the partnership with Bradford Council could we deliver an event like this. Our ride leaders working with Youth Workers and volunteers and their incredible range of bikes has made it possible for every young person to get involved in the ride. And the young volunteers that have been helping tonight have been absolutely outstanding”

Naz Ali from Bradford Youth service said:

"It has been wonderful to see so many young people with disabilities enjoying cycling tonight.  We have built up a range of bikes over the past few years to make sure that cycling is truly accessible to young people in the city.  Joining a SkyRide local ride in the park has been a great way to get these young people involved.”
