Inspire Peterborough hosting January's Sporting Saturday 2015

Inspire Peterborough, an inclusive sport project of local disability charity Disability Peterborough, is holding Sporting Saturday for the second year running at the Cresset on 24 January. Bringing together some of the key providers of sport, disabled people, their families and carers from in and around Peterborough will be able to try a range of activities.

Following the success of Sporting Saturday 2014, which attracted over 400 people, the event is back for 2015. Activities will include cricket and table cricket, soft archery, laser shooting, inclusive dance and martial arts.

There will be an opportunity to register for the new Inclusive Sport Peterborough programme, which has been funded by Sport England and the National Lottery. This new programme of archery, cricket, handcycling and swimming  is also available as an outreach programme where the partners Inspire Peterborough and Vivacity Disability Sports bring the activities to you and your group.

For people with impairments or long term health conditions, the first hurdle to exercise and fitness is often not knowing where to find services that are relevant and welcoming. Inspire Peterborough aims to be the hub of information for disability and inclusive sport in Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

Para Go Tri

In the run up to the 2016 Paralympics in Rio there is a tremendous buzz about para triathlon being included for the first time. Inspire Peterborough is excited to announce that the UK's very first Para Go Tri event will be held on Sporting Saturday.

Using the facilities in the YMCA community gym at the Cresset, participants can sign up to have a go at aspects of a para triathlon with the hope to inspire the people of Peterborough to get behind para triathlon in Rio and to try it for themselves.

Local information

Alongside all the action of the sport based activities, there will also be information stands for local and national charities and organisations who can offer support and guidance, there will be the opportunity for attendees to benefit from a relaxing massage, and inclusive magic and clowning demonstrations will be also be on offer.

Inspire Peterborough is working in partnership with Radio Peterborough and will be broadcasting live from the event. Air time will be available on the day for people who would like to try their hand at presenting, and interested parties should contact gail@inspirepeterborough.com in advance of the event.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Peterborough and will see performances from Goldhay Arts and Unity All Star Gold Cheerleaders, among others.
