Joy of being active continues with new GOGA funding

Sport England funding means the life-changing activity and sport programme will continue for another year.

A boy smiles as he plays a parachute game with balls bouncing on top of a multi-coloured sheet.

Wiltshire, Black Country, Amber Valley, Blackpool and the Foundation of Light in Sunderland will continue as part of Get Out Get Active (GOGA) thanks to funding from Sport England.

Residents across each location will continue to see the benefits of the national programme through 2025 into 2026. The GOGA approach will also be taken to new areas through additional innovation pots of funding. This will give an opportunity to explore and learn ways in which to constantly improve the programme. Locations for new GOGA innovation opportunities will be confirmed soon.

Nine years on from the inception of Get Out Get Active, the least active disabled and non-disabled people in their communities will continue to come together for fun and inclusive activity sessions. From men’s yoga to walking rugby and boxing local expertise will be used to engage with people in each location.

Since 2016 GOGA has reached more than 56,000 people. As well as participants there have been more than 4,000 volunteers engaged at sessions, with almost three in 10 disabled volunteers.

Helen Derby, Strategic Lead-Programmes at Activity Alliance, said:

"We are incredibly grateful that Sport England have decided to fund the programme for another year. It means that individuals across the country will continue to have the opportunity to be active in fun and welcoming environments.
"Get Out Get Active is unique in its approach, and the results have been staggering. To have so many people not only try out activity through GOGA sessions, but then engage outside of the programme shows its true power.
"We also hope to see GOGA reach out to new areas, spreading the positive and innovative ways of engaging with the least active members of communities."

With Activity Alliance as the creator and lead partner, GOGA has transformed people’s lives. Six in 10 participants say they are now more connected within their community. Seven in 10 have continued to be active and maintained their activity levels outside of the GOGA programme.

Get Out Get Active strengthens community spirit, increases confidence, and improves mental health. The success comes from tapping into people's real-life motivations to be physically active and that is set to continue.
