Create an inclusive volunteer programme with our toolkit
This Volunteers' Week revisit the Get Out Get Active volunteer management toolkit designed to help you support volunteers.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. Launched in 1984, the initiative has been running for over 40 years, providing organisations and communities a platform to thank current and past volunteers for their invaluable efforts.
Our latest Annual Disability and Activity Survey found that just 15% of disabled people ‘see people like me volunteering in sport and physical activity’. That is compared to 42% of non-disabled people. It also found there is a distinct inequality between disabled people and non-disabled people’s perceived representation in sport and physical activity.
On Volunteers Week it is important to highlight that disabled people feel marginalised and overlooked when seeking opportunities to participate, work, and volunteer in the sport and physical activity sector.
Making disabled people feel welcome in all areas, and challenging negative attitudes will motivate more disabled people to take part in sport and physical activities and transition into volunteer roles or the workforce.
Everyone should have the ability to access volunteering opportunities. Created in partnership with Volunteering Matters, the Get Out Get Active volunteer management toolkit provides organisations with a guide to building an inclusive volunteer programme.
The free step-by-step guide will ensure your organisation is offering inclusive and accessible volunteering opportunities. The toolkit includes a range of resources to map out your organisation's volunteer journey. Across 8 sections it works through ‘Creating positive and inclusive volunteer opportunities’ to ‘Safeguarding’ and ‘Measuring the impact of volunteers’.
The resources feature key learnings and insight from Activity Alliance's Get Out Get Active (GOGA) programme on supporting disabled volunteers and how to create an inclusive volunteering programme.
Access the toolkit on the resource section of the Activity Alliance website.
