Activity Alliance releases additional data from Annual Survey 22-23

For National Inclusion Week, Activity Alliance has released two additional data reports on disabled people’s demographics and impairment types.

In June, we published our latest Annual Disability and Activity Survey report for 2022-23. The survey is the primary source of insight for organisations working to achieve fairness for disabled people in sport and activity. It revealed a growing need to reduce disabled people’s cost of living and loneliness to improve their activity levels.

Today, to mark National Inclusion Week, we are releasing two additional reports linked to our annual survey. They highlight the key findings from disabled people with different types of impairments and different demographics.

998 disabled people and people with long-term health conditions took part in the online survey between August and October 2022. These new data reports and the main survey report complement Sport England’s Active Lives Adult Survey. They provide greater detail on how different impairment types and demographics can impact disabled people’s perceptions and experiences of sport and physical activity.

Differences for people with different impairment types report

This report outlines key data for people with seven types of impairment compared to the overall sample of disabled people, non-disabled people, and to previous years. The seven impairment types analysed were mobility, long-term health condition, mental health, hearing, visual, social or behavioural, and learning, understanding or concentrating.

Most people who took part in the survey had more than one impairment type (77%). The challenges experienced by disabled people can be similar, regardless of their impairment or health condition. This report provides more detail for organisations and individuals who work with people with specific impairments.

How disabled people’s demographic differences affect their activity report

This report outlines findings from people from different demographic groups. It takes an in-depth look at gender, socioeconomic groups, ethnicity, age and sexual orientation. It also provides additional insight from our Get Out Get Active programme partners who have experience of delivering activity to specific groups of disabled people.

Our research and insight team lead the way in gathering insight on disabled people in sport and activity. The two reports released today provide more valuable information to help organisations embed inclusive practice and make their sport and physical activity opportunities accessible for all disabled people.
